The gross value of deals on non-performing exposures announced on the Italian market in 2018 exceeded 98 billion euros. It emerges from the BeBeez database, also taking into account the 18 billion impaired loans that have been transferred from the two Veneto banks to SGA and the mega securitization of 24.1 billion by Banca Montepaschi.
This means a figure which is more than double the 46 billion euros GBV of the deals concluded in 2017, of which the largest was the one relating to the Fino project of Unicredit of 17.7 billion euros. All this while in 2019 transactions are already in progress for at least 25 billions, considering also the 2.8 billion NPLs and UTPs put on the market by Banca Carige after the ECB had appointed three temporary administrators to take charge of the bank in a bid to save the struggling lender after it failed to raise capital late last year.
